Official: Mariani will officiate Milan-Atalanta – the precedents for both teams

By Oliver Fisher -

The AIA has designated Maurizio Mariani as referee for the match scheduled for this Sunday at the San Siro between Milan and Atalanta.

Sunday night’s game at San Siro promises to be a clash with big implications on the race for a top four spot given that only six points separate Inter in second from Atalanta in sixth spot. With 15 games to go between now and the end of the season the race could well go right down to the wire.

To assist the Roman referee Mariani will be De Meo and Vecchi as the two linesmen, the fourth official Sozza while in the VAR booth it will be Guida and Abbattista.

As our colleagues at SempreMilan.it report, there are sixteen precedents for Mariani with Milan on the pitch as the referee with eight of them ending in Rossoneri victories, plus three draws and five defeats. Interestingly, Mariani has awarded six penalties against Milan in those 16 games.

On the other hand, he has been in charge of 17 Atalanta games who in that time won six and lost seven times, drawing only three games.
