Mauro Suma stresses the importance of Milan and Inter’s ‘fundamental’ stadium project

By Oliver Fisher -

Milan TV’s Mauro Suma has stressed the importance of the new stadium project for both AC Milan and Inter.

The two clubs want to construct new state-of-the-art home as was revealed late last year, with Italian firm Manica and American giants Populous the two competing firms trying to land the project.

Recent indications over the past few weeks and months have suggested that most of the sticking points in talks have been addressed, but things have gone quiet again recently.

It has been reported though by most major outlets that Milan and Inter have an agreement with the Council over the volumes that the project will be allowed to work under, that being the 3D space that the teams have permission to build and develop in.

Suma, in his editorial for MilanNews, spoke about just how important it is for the two clubs to secure a new home.

“Do not be disinterested and far from the process of the new stadium, for example, do not think that it is a matter for bureaucrats. It is far from it in reality,” he said.

“The new stadium is fundamental for Milan’s future, for Milan’s future markets. Without the new stadium, Milan and Milanese football will not return to the top.

“The story is too important for Milanese football, which with its 10 European Cups is a crucial and absolute calling card for Milan. The other challenge is that of the pitch.”

He then moved on to talk about the team’s preseason preparations.

“We must not ignore the friendlies, starting September 2. This year Milan have to get off to a good start. In the last 3 seasons, we have had some great games to remedy the breakdowns and fugitives of the first half of the season in the second half.

“This year we have to promise ourselves: we have to do a season, not a portion of one. So everyone on his stomach and all concentrated, with intensity and confidence. Immediately. From now.”
