Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala believes there are no obstacles that lay in the path of AC Milan and Inter’s stadium project.
A lot has been said about Milan and Inter’s official statement regarding San Siro, publicly confirming their desire to buy the area from the city council. Our Substack bonus article will help you catch up on all the recent stadium news.
As La Gazzetta dello Sport report, the operation of the sale of San Siro will come to the council ‘generally in June, to complete the entire operation and draw up the deed in August, September’, as per the Mayor.
Sala outlined the next steps of the sale of the stadium and areas to Inter and Milan, after the conference of services closed yesterday. A second conference of services will have to be held before the sale.
There will also be the opinion of the council on the public interest of the project ‘when we have the definitive project’, he clarified. The superintendency clarified that the restriction on the second tier on the occasion of the 70th anniversary will come into force on November 10th.
“We thought it was also a little earlier so that’s fine, but let’s say that we always remain with the timing of closing in the summer. I hope this is the right time, because it’s an endless job,” the Mayor said.
“Last week we met with Webuild on the current situation of the San Siro Stadium and on the working hypotheses that do not stop the matches, if not minimally. This week I intend to meet with Webuild and the teams to take stock with them.
“Beyond certain statements, I think that if we produce a good project, with a good restyling that is not very expensive, I believe they are interested.
“For the people of Milan too, this is a never-ending story and we need to get out of it, and then there is a problem with the Municipality’s accounts and therefore I have to look for a sale for the future, or I will impoverish a heritage. So we will meet with them this week.

“There are a few points that we are addressing, I don’t know if I would call them critical issues, but basically we are thinking about greenery, about reclamation, which I don’t think is a huge problem but we need to work on it.
“Then there is a real issue, which is to move the new stadium as far as possible from the houses. These are the technical aspects. We will need to understand which vehicle company will acquire.
“We must provide transparency to everyone but above all we must respect the law on stadiums, which says that the benefits of this operation must remain with the teams. This is the minimum requirement and we are discussing it with the clubs, the intention is to do things properly.
“I don’t see any insurmountable critical issues, I see a work path that at this moment is more technical and therefore more managed by the general municipal management.
“Then there is the issue of greenery that must be 50%, in this calculation there is a part of greenery that is not deep so the matter must be evaluated well.”
