Mayor of Sesto insists doors are ‘wide open’ for new stadium: “It is the only solution”

The new stadium project continues to drive a war of words in the media, and the mayor of Sesto San Giovanni has once again urged the clubs to consider a move that.

Roberto Di Stefano – the mayor of Sesto – has never made a secret of wanting to have the new Milan and Inter stadium build in the area, given the rather obvious site of the former Falck steelworks.

He spoke to Libero again today to remind the Rossoneri and the Nerazzurri that the offer has not expired and that they would be welcomed with open arms.

“The doors are not open, they are wide open. Moving the stadium to the Falck area is the only solution for the two clubs. It is the largest in Europe, it has already been reclaimed and times could be fast. We are also faced with a private area, there are no constraints present that there are in Milano. Sesto is also well connected by transport,” he said (via Calciomercato.com).

Yesterday Matteo Salvini – the Deputy Premier and Minister of Infrastructures – was also clear in pushing for an immediate farewell of the two Milanese clubs to the San Siro project.

“Already too many lost years, Milan and Inter can no longer lose time. A new, beautiful, modern and safe stadium should be built in Sesto San Giovanni. No more delays and wasted money,” he said.

The latest obstacle that might well slow down any chances of a new stadium being built next to the current one is the constraint on the existing structure promised by Vittorio Sgarbi, the current Undersecretary for Culture. If that were to become a reality then San Siro cannot be demolished.

  1. I’m sure Milan would pack their bag and start right away at Sesto if the Milan city council didn’t hold them with all the BS.
