Mazzara: ‘Water from all sides’ – Zlatan must do more than ‘cinematic acting’

By Ben Dixon -

There have been two games played in Serie A and AC Milan can only show a point on the board, leading to several concerns to be voiced.

Starting the new season with a point from two games is worrying for most clubs. As you go up the division, the worry rises, and with Milan, this is certainly the case.

With games against a Torino side – who lost Alessandro Buongiorno – and Parma – a newly promoted side – the expectation is six points. In fairness, regardless of the opponent, two games should be two wins.

Instead, only a point can be shown for their troubles.

Since the Torino game, the fingers have been pointed in several directions, and they will continue to be. However, Pietro Mazzara has pointed his finger in the direction of the management and had some choice words for Zlatan Ibrahimovic in his latest piece for Milan News.

The journalist starts, stating that the ‘fault is great’ and lies with everyone, but the message this summer has been wrong. Throughout the off-season, the Rossoneri’s management have preached a message of calmness. Instead, it should have been a message of determination, promising and acting on the fact that change would come.

He then turns his attention to Ibrahimovic, stating that the Swede has been a ‘cinematic actor’ this summer who needs to focus on his role, rather than ‘trekking with Ambrosini or appearing on CBS’. Once a player who inspired and led, Mazzara questions whether the striker is able to play that role now in a senior position.

Mazzara finishes, stating that the club are ‘treading water’, recalling how Fonseca seemed lost in the post-match interview and showed no signs of change between the two disappointing results.

  1. Newspapers are so dull. On the first goal, Calabria was late yet again—feels like the thousandth time—while Theo looked like he was ready to explode but ended up shrugging it off. As for the second goal, the right-back was way too advanced, and the pivot, Reijnders, didn’t bother dropping back to cover the center-back position. I can tolerate Reijnders, but not Calabria. Making Calabria captain is like rewarding a non-performing player, and it’s hurting team morale.

  2. Zlatan? He’s not on the pitch. The players should act professional as they’re been paid big bucks to defend and attack. To play FOR THE TEAM. That’s not happening and that’s not on Zlatan as he isn’t a babysitter.
