Mediaset: Fragility and under-utilisation of subs behind Milan’s struggles – the stats

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli’s reluctance to use his bench is becoming a cause for concern, according to a report.

As SportMediaset (via MilanNews) note, in the last few weeks Milan have disappeared in the second half of games. At Milanello, Pioli and his staff are trying to understand the reasons for this.

When looking at the games in particular against Lecce, Inter and Fiorentina, the Rossoneri dropped seven points from winning positions due to a collapse, with which they would still be in the running for a place in the Champions League.

Fear, fragility and even a little tiredness is the diagnosis, and there are in fact some players – such as Theo Hernandez – who have practically always played and play 90 minutes every game.

The report also takes a look at a lack of depth as Pioli considers his reserves to be not at the level of the starting XI. In the last three games, the bench has been under-utilised.

Calabria has played the most minutes with 90 (out of 270′), while Paqueta has amassed 78 minutes of game time, with 27′ for Bonaventura, 12′ for Leao, 9′ for Saelemaerkers.

Finally, Daniel Maldini has played for one minute and zero minutes for Laxalt, who returned to Milan from his loan spell at Torino.
