Mediaset: Lyon star’s move to Barcelona could help Milan land target Pioli wants ‘at all costs’

By Oliver Fisher -

The Memphis Depay deal could indirectly result in AC Milan being able to land their number one defensive target, according to a report.

Milan are believed to be in the market for a new central defender given that they will start the 2020-21 season on Thursday with very thin depth due to the fact Alessio Romagnoli and Mateo Mussachio are still recovering from injury.

Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic continues to be the name strongest linked, and SportMediaset (via MilanNews) have provided an update on the situation on Wednesday afternoon.

Their journalist Claudio Raimondi claims that head coach Stefano Pioli wants Milenkovic ‘at all costs’, but the demand is very high – around €35-40million.

However, something is moving, as Fiorentina could sign Fazio from Roma on favourable conditions and there is talk of an exchange deal involving Bonifazi, who would arrive to bolster the Viola rearguard.

The Rossoneri cannot move for Milenkovic yet because they must first sell Lucas Paqueta to Lyon, but Barcelona’s insistence on signing Memphis Depay for €30m means the Ligue 1 club could get the funds they need.
