Mediaset: Milan confident of breakthrough in Leao talks after new offer – the latest

AC Milan are hoping to make a breakthrough in talks over the renewal of Rafael Leao having softened their stance on the fine owed to Sporting CP, a report claims.

According to what is being reported by SportMediaset (via SempreMilan.it), the fog that shrounded the negotiations over the renewal of Leao’s deal seems to have thinned and an agreement now appears closer.

Milan have raised their offer to €6.5m net per season in salary plus bonuses, to which they have added another €2m in compensation for the amount already paid by the player to Sporting CP.

The crux of the matter remains the fine of €16.5m (increasing with interest) to be paid to the Portuguese club and which Leao is already contributing to by paying one-fifth of his salary every month.

Now it will be up to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to have the final word on the matter, but there is also the possibility that in the end it could up being Lille who take on the full amount so as not to lose the percentage of proceeds on the future resale of Leao they would be owed.

It feels as though Leao’s renewal is therefore matter of time and it is not excluded that everything could be resolved before the double European derby against Inter.
