Mediaset: Pioli considers using 4-3-2-1 formation as Leao disappoints in training

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli is considering a change of formation once again for the return leg of Milan’s Coppa Italia semi-final clash against Juventus, a report claims.

The Rossoneri will travel to the Allianz Stadium on either June 12 or 13 looking for an unlikely progression to yet another cup final, having drawn the first leg 1-1 at San Siro.

Pioli – in addition to all the speculation surrounding his future – will have a number of selection dilemmas to face. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Theo Hernandez and Samu Castillejo are suspended while Leo Duarte and Andrea Conti are expected to miss the game through injury,

According to TV station SportMediaset (via MilanNews), the Rossoneri coach is considering abandoning the 4-2-3-1 and moving to the Christmas tree formation that brought Carlo Ancelotti so much success.

This system would see Giacomo Bonaventura and Hakan Calhanoglu behind centre-forward Ante Rebic. The big exclusion would once again be Rafael Leao, who is not impressing in training at Milanello. Therefore Pioli, despite the absence of Ibra, could keep him on the bench again.
