AC Milan are treading a fine line with agent Jorge Mendes as they are trying to carefully negotiate two different deals, a report claims.
As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via SempreMilan.it), Jorge Mendes is the man who is at the centre of two important negotiations for Milan’s future, and one could influence the other in terms of relations between the parties.
The first involves Renato Sanches, a midfielder who dreams of playing for PSG and is asking for a salary that reflects his ambitions. Before being able to accelerate, the Ligue 1 champions must first thin out the squad by making some sales.
Mendes is also involved in a negotiation with the Rossoneri over the renewal of Rafael Leao, but the requests over the salary for both players is worrying Milan. The demand for Sanches is €5.5m net per season, and Mendes wants Leao to be paid €7m as a reflection of his status.
He’s not the villain this. Leao is a 70m player and will be double that. He’s already paid for himself for tge next 5 years. Purchased at 30m salary 35m. We must make exceptions to the rule in exceptional cases. He will be in his prime years come 3-4 years and we can sell him then at a significant gain but by then we will be serious contenders for champions league. Why let one of the big teams get him for 3 and and sell him on at profit. He’s worth the 7m.
If he can score +10 goals before Christmas, then he MIGHT be worth the 7M€/y. Just because he had a great 2-3 months last season doesn’t prove he’s THAT good. People have ups and downs but true champions keep their level. Leao hasn’t done that. Yet.

Leao just shined several games of the last gap of the 21/22 season. He has NOT been proved himself yet by just scoring 11 plus 10 assists. He needs to do more to justify his demand for 7M Euro net salary.

Yep. It’s simple maths really. Milan’s budget is negative. It cannot be the next seasons. They need to cut costs. The biggest costs are the player salaries.
They have managed to lower these costs by getting rid of Kessie & Romagnoli. Also Zlatan’s salary drops significantly this season. So great, more cash to spend on Leao, right?! Nope, not really.
Theo ~doubled his salary. Bennacer will too (if he chooses to stay). Kalulu gets a huuge raise too. Tonali will get one too – not as big though. Same goes for Tomori. Origi isn’t doing charity in Milan either.
Milan also needs a bigger squad due to UCL and more ambitious goals. That means more costs on salaries. The main players they are recruiting aren’t kalulus or saelemaekersis this time. They are looking for players that are certain to be step us from current ones (De Ketalaere, Ziyech). The aren’t free. Their salaries are more than those they are replacing (Saelemaekers etc.).
As said, Milan’s budget was still negative last season. UEFA demands them to improve or Milan will be banned from UCL/EL again. So… Do the math. Can they REALLY afford to give Leao 7M€/year (remember the taxes too)? Nope. They simply cannot. Unless they sell players such as Bennacer (who are worth enough).

Simple, offer Leao a decent contract which can be renewed next year upon performance.
