GdS: Maldini’s strong desire and Elliott’s doubts – Messias must still work to convince Milan

Junior Messias is certainly enjoying his current moment, but it must be remembered that he is still fighting for a place at AC Milan beyond next June.

La Gazzetta dello Sport focuses on the Brazilian and begins with his quote from the end of the game against Genoa, during which he scored a brace to make it three goals in his last three games: “My story is a fairy tale, but that’s enough. I’m at Milan because I deserved it.”

The 30-year-old won promotion to Serie A with Crotone and then subsequently got a move to Milan after an impressive season for a team that were relegated without much of a fight. With 3 goals in 5 games for Milan having disposed of physical problems, he has become a reliable asset to the attack.

However, it must be remembered that Junior needs a good year to convince the ownership to invest in him. Messias arrived on the last day of the summer transfer window on a paid loan with the option to buy set at €5.4m and he earns about €1m net in salary.

By May he will be 31, and given his age and the economic parameters, he is a profile far from Elliott Management’s usual policy, which try to recruit players like Leao, Tomori, Diaz, Saelemaekers. Messias was especially wanted by Paolo Maldini and is the exception, but he must convince everyone that keeping him is the only option.
