Messias gives thoughts on wing-back role and objectives for the season – video

Junior Messias has spoken about his new found role as a wing-back as well as the impact of Zlatan Ibrahimovic since his return to full training.

There were some eyebrows raised on Saturday night when Stefano Pioli named Messias as the right wing-back in the new 3-4-2-1 system, but the end result was a goal for the Brazilian and a 1-0 win.

He was present on the red carpet tonight ahead of the event taking place to mark the 20th anniversary of Fondazione Milan, and he spoke to the reporters present.

How is the current moment?

“We all know the moment we were having. We come from three important victories in which we haven’t conceded a goal, but we have to work for the next league games.”

How was the new role against Monza?

“I make all the sacrifices to help the team. For me it changes little. There is work to be done as we always have. Even in this bad period we’ve got through we’ve worked well. We must be careful.”

What are the objectives for the season?

“Our goal at the beginning of the season was to win the league but given that Napoli are having an extraordinary season we must congratulate them. Our goal will be to get to the Champions League.”

How important is Zlatan’s return?

“Ibra is always important, his presence is always a pleasure. When he’s on the pitch, it’s normal that he gives you an extra hand.”

On the players at Milan…

“People are used to the players of yesteryear, which I also fell in love with. Since I arrived, I immediately made myself available to the coach. It’s up to people to judge, I’m just doing my job.”
