CM: Milan offered €35m Benfica midfielder but have already committed to another target

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have been offered the chance to sign Julian Weigl as Benfica have opened to the sale of the midfielder, according to a report.

Weigl rose to prominence during his time with Borussia Dortmund when clubs across Europe had his name on their wish list, and this season he is back in his best form with 5 goals and 3 assists in 37 games for Benfica.

Calciomercato.com are reporting that the Portuguese side are ‘rubbing their hands’ because they are protected by the fact the German international’s contract is expiring in 2024 and they are ready to listen to bids, but the starting price is €35m.

In recent weeks he has been offered to Milan and Roma – with director Tiago Pinto of the latter a big admirer from his time at Benfica – but Jose Mourinho has not yet expressed any kind of decision either way.

Milan wanted him back when Mirabelli was a sporting director, but for the moment they do not seem too keen on making another attempt for him given they have Yacine Adli arriving ahead of 2022-23 and they have ‘already bet on all their chips’ on Renato Sanches of Lille.
