CM: Milan set sights on another Bordeaux star after Adli – financial crisis could aid pursuit

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will soon announce the renewal of head coach Stefano Pioli until 2024 and then the management will set about fine tuning the squad available to him.

According to Calciomercato.com, Pioli’s contract extension before the January window is a sign that the owners are willing give new impetus to a project that is starting to bear fruit. Milan have already secured the signing of Yacine Adli in an operation worth €10m in total and the management preferred to leave him on loan in France for a further season to help his growth.

There have been rumours suggesting that his loan could be cut short and he may arrive in January given Ismael Bennacer and Franck Kessie will leave for AFCON, but at the moment this does not seem to be on the cards.

However, Bordeaux are faced with a very serious financial situation as not even the acquisition of the club by the Spanish-Luxembourg businessman Gerard Lopez last summer has raised their fortunes.

Lopez is looking how to raise income, which is of course accessible through the slashing of the wage bill and the sale of some of the team’s valuable pieces. Among these is the Cameroonian international Jean Onana who has ended up firmly in Milan’s sights, with Pioli studying his ideal midfield for the future.
