GdS: Milan’s Champions League plan – new signings and experience to go further

By Oliver Fisher -

There is a common theme about AC Milan’s plans as they revolve around the Champions League and adding to the European experience.

La Gazzetta dello Sport writes about Milan’s ‘Champions League plan’ which carries the first objective of reinforcing the squad with those who have already won the competition ahead of the 2022-23 campaign when the club will look to do better than last season’s elimination as bottom of the group.

Divock Origi will be the first signing to arrive and he won the competition with Liverpool in 2018-19, scoring the winning goal in the semi-final comeback against Barcelona and netting the second goal in the final.

Marco Asensio and Hakim Ziyech have already raised the most important cup in Europe too and they are targets for Milan whose UCL success might not be a mere coincidence.

With Origi’s arrival the number of players that have won the Champions League in the squad will rise to three as the Belgian joins Olivier Giroud and Theo Hernandez who won it with Chelsea and Real Madrid respectively.

A leap forward in Europe is the primary objective of Stefano Pioli and the management, especially with the new ownership, and the next step will be to qualify for the round of 16. The difficulty of the group is key but by winning the league and securing Pot 1, the Rossoneri will avoid avoid Real Madrid, PSG, Bayern, Manchester City and Ajax. The European plan has just begun.

  1. The Champions League is in our DNA and we must sign the best players and not cheap but low standard players and slip on our way to our 8th Champions League victory

  2. Asensio as a 10 and Ziyech as a RWF ,Leao at LWF and Origi at 9 will be a formidable force to beat any team they face.
