The game between AC Milan and Chelsea tonight at San Siro pits together two sides who actually have horrendous recent records relevant to this game.
It starts with the home side Milan, who have lost four of their last five games when hosting an English team in the Champions League, with their only victory coming against Arsenal in February 2012 (4-0). The only previous time they hosted Chelsea in the competition was in a 1-1 draw in the first group stage in October 1999.

Chelsea’s record on Italian shores is also nothing to write home about. Their last away win against a Serie A side in the Champions League was against Lazio back in November 2003 (4-0).
Since then, the Blues are winless in their last seven away trips to face Italian teams in the competition (D1 L6), losing each of the last five in a row between 2010 and 2021. Both Stefano Pioli and Graham Potter will be looking to end those runs.
