Mediaset: Milan believe Chelsea will not pursue €100-120m deal after Nkunku agreement

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan believe that Chelsea’s signing of Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig could well end their pursuit of Rafael Leao, according to a report.

SportMediaset confirm that Nkunku will sign for Chelsea in July 2023 with just the official announcement missing. The Frenchman missed the World Cup due to injury but is the top scorer in the current Bundesliga season with 12 goals in 15 games.

The figure Chelsea will pay is unknown but it has been widely reported to be €60-70m, and in doing so the Blues have landed a versatile forward who can play as a winger and as a centre-forward.

The report adds that in terms of characteristics, Nkunku is also similar to Rafael Leao, the other name linked with Chelsea in the last few weeks. The Rossoneri management therefore remain calm and also optimistic that in the end an agreement on a new contract will be found in some way.

It is unlikely that Chelsea will want to invest another €100-120, – the figure requested by Milan – for a role in which they covered with Nkunku via a big investment.

      1. Big mistake by Chelsea. Nkunku isn’t available until next summer and Broja is also out for the season. I doubt they’ll finish in the top 4.

Man City, PSG or Newcastle will want Leao. If no one makes a move in January, he’ll extend his contract and Milan will insert a buy out clause.

  1. Milan remain optimistic up until they see their player holding another teams jersey during their presentation after he left Milan on a free transfer

    1. Hahahaha exactly, it’s sad. But Paolo is overratted anyways, never learn of this stupid mistake. If his name wasn’t Maldini he would have got a lot more stick. His second name is “optimistic”

  2. It is not so big deal, looking players leave for free. The same applies to Leao. He was bought for 35+ million, for a not-so-big salary. And earn a lot of revenue for team performance during his contract. So – leave him for free, and put another one. He grew a lot in Ac Milan, making excellent performances for the club and Milan making the best results in the last 10 years. If Leao leaves for free, it is a big chance for his career to be finished, with money in his pocket, and Milan can put the next youngster on the left flank. This policy is making the best positions in players’ negotiations, where players and agents have all of the club’s revenues. Chelsea can spend hundred of millions, but still, they are not competitive in Premier League.
