GdS: Milan would target Chelsea winger and Salzburg striker if forced to sell Leao

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have two profiles in mind for if they are forced to sell Rafael Leao in the upcoming transfer windows, a report claims.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Milan defended Leao from Chelsea’s attacks in the summer despite receiving an offer – albeit not official – that was nine figures (€100m+). In January it is easy to imagine that the Blues could return to the negotiating table, so Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara must not be unprepared.

The dialogue over the renewal of the Portuguese winger is ongoing, but if the negotiation were not done or had not made substantial ground by the time January comes around, Milan would really needs to think about the possibility of a sale in order to get a good price.

Where could Milan possibly turn if they found themselves without Leao in the middle of the season? The paper suggests that Chelsea themselves may have a solution in Christian Pulisic, who is admired by the management and the 24-year-old American winger would gladly accept a move to Milan, because he has not played as much as he would have liked.

The other name is that of Noah Okafor, a 22-year-old Swiss forward that Milan faced and conceded against in the Champions League (as did Chelsea). Given his age and potential he would be another prospect to grow.

Finally, the report also mentions that Milan still consider Hakim Ziyech to be a potential solution for the right wing. He did not play much under Thomas Tuchel, but now that Graham Potter is in charge things may change.

    1. RW because of tuchel, he started as LW, he also play mostly as LW in the first season and in USNT, he also stated that he is prefer to play as LW

  1. Sell leao in january would be mistake , that can ruin our scudetto race. Better try to renew him until next summer,if want to sell do it on summer not january . Sell leao on january mean you must buy new LW because you cannot depend on rebic ( injury prone) buy new LW need adaptation

    1. This is not a bad solution but my guess Mudryk won’t be sold in January unless a mega offer is made, and I don’t think we’ll do that because it won’t be good value. What may happen is Leao for cash + Pulisic in January, and let Rebic/Origi handle LW until the summer, and then get Mudryk at a more reasonable price. I know Rebic has been a bit injured of late, but if he can get healthy he is good enough to cover LW to finish the season. The real question is: is Leao + Messias/Saladmaker better or worse than Rebic + Pulisic. It may be fairly even given that Leao is better than Rebic, but Plusic is much better than Messias/Saladmaker.

      1. To be clear that last bit of my comment has to do with sustaining a title challenge this season if this switch happens in January.

      2. It is very risky change the squad in middle season unless we only aim finish top 4 . If we are on scudetto race better wait till summer for sell leao ( try renew him first this season) . Pulisic need time to adaptation to new languange and country in italy also pioli system

        1. It might not be something we can wait for. If we allow leao to go into the last year of his contract just like Kessie, just like Hakan, just like Alessio, just like Gigio… then it will likely be the same result and he will now be worth nothing… his value will plummet from 100+ to 0 since teams just have to wait a few months to get him for free. Imo, it’s absolutely awful to remove a key piece mid season but we can’t lose another massive asset for free. Not again.

          1. LOLOLOLO. That’s hilarious and so far from the truth. Comical hour my friend. 100 to 0 if we don’t sell him in January??? Hahahahaha!!! Plenty of buyers in summer more than in winter window. Relax.

          2. Agreed Zoro. Juro, maybe you are right in that he will still have a market in the summer, but it won’t be anywhere close to 100m, or even 80m. Maybe 50. Maybe. And that’s a huge loss in value for us. Then there is always a possibility the player decides to just finish out the contract regardless of interest, to get that huge signing bonus that is usually offered to free players and their agents. Leao with a year left in the summer of 2023 is very dangerous for us.

  2. 1. Best option, renew leao til 2027.
    2. Second is, sell him at the end of season
    3. If we forced to sell in january, then :
    – Try to use Theo as LW, and Pulisic in RW
    – Use Dest or Ballo in LB
    – We still have Calabria in RB
    – Buy a striker from Leao’s money
    Thats my opinion

  3. But i think, renewal Leao’s contract is complicated because of that Benfica’s problem. Outside of that problem, i think Milan will agree of his salary demand, considering his contribution and role for Milan.
So…lets wait and see, where its going and pray for best solution for the club.

  4. Dnt pay sporting shishi. If Milan must pay….his salary shud b $4m. If nt…sell n buy N. Okafor…Pulisic and Beràrdi. Who d hell does he thnk he is??

    1. He thinks he worth at least as much as Rabiot who makes 7m per season 🤪 – that’s who he thinks he is. I agree that piece of garbage Mendes should be paying the fine along w Lille – but unfortunately that won’t happen

  5. if we wait for Summer.. It’s definitely gonna be Kessie, Donna, Hakah sh*it all over again. We have to renew/sell by this Winter or we will end up letting him go for free because after Summer, he will just stall another year and go on a big money move.
