CF: Milan close to pocketing €50m from Champions League – the figures

AC Milan have grown into the Champions League this season, and whilst the club will be happy with recent results they will also be happy about their prize purse so far.

Two opening defeats in the competition immediately created doubt about the rest of Milan’s campaign, given they still had to face reigning champions Real Madrid. However, things have improved since those first two games, at least in terms of the table.

With three wins on the bounce, the Rossoneri are now in a good position to qualify for the final 16, and a route through the playoffs wouldn’t be terrible either, even if not the ideal situation.

Whilst the results will be the big focus of the club, there will also be a point made about the Diavolo’s financial benefits from progressing, and today Calcio e Finanza published how much the club has made so far, and their findings have been relayed by Milan News.

Just for participating, Milan have pocketed €18.62 million, and for their ranking, at least another €275 thousand can be added to this total. For the European share, there is another €17.3m earned, with another €4.16m earned for non-European share. Finally, the results mean that €6.3m has been added to the purse, totalling €46.66m so far.

This packet is more than half of what the Rossoneri spent during the summer mercato, which shows the value of European football, and if this can be continued with progression deeper into the competition, Milan will only pocket more.

    1. His release clause is exactly 80 mil and his value according to transfermarkt is 40 mil. Spice that up with the facts that he is Sporting Lisbon’s captain and that he has a contract lasting until 2028 and how the big Portuguese clubs generally handle sales then I seriously doubt that he would be available for below his release clause and certainly not for 50 mil or below. Probably will cost the release clause or 75’ish. At this point I’d get Ricci or/and Frendrup but that probably wont happen either.

      1. Thought as much. His ship has sailed and it’s heading to premier league…

Ricci in January for 20-30M would be ideal but it’s not gonna happen..not the redbird way..
We’re getting a mezzala or a b2b in the summer. The red bird way!

        1. Yeah seems like the most likely scenario at this point of time.

Ricci probably cost more now but it would indeed be ideal getting him but I think he will either join Man City in January or Inter or Juventus next summer. I’ll nevertheles keep a slim hope for a deal for us until he actually ends up at a different club.
😀 yeah it wouldn’t really surprise me either if that is the end result.

  1. yes great question also, I don’t understand what is meant by “European share, there is another €17.3m earned, with another €4.16m earned for non-European share”? Lastly, the article says “Just for participating, Milan have pocketed €18.62 million”. Every year we hear that making the top four is worth 50 million, is the money you mentioned above, €46.66m in addition to the 50 Million euros? or the same?

    1. So we now have:

      18.62m for getting to League-phase.
2.1m for every win in League-phase.
Then broadcast (Europe) 17.3m (outside Europe) 4.16m
Also (at least) 0.275*x for ending position in League-phase (275.000 will be bigger – but not so much, as for today (after 5 rounds) it’s 288.664). So for today it would be another 6m.

Another 1m for knockout round playoff.
Another 11m for getting to top 16.
Another 12.5m for getting to top 8.
Another 15m for getting to top 4.
And another 25m for winner, 18.5m for runner-up.

+ of course more cash from broadcast.

So … If Milan manage to round of 16 will bring another ~50m (with broadcast money from last 3 games + 2 in knockout round + 2 in round of 16).
