CorSport: Milan waiting to hear from Club Brugge this weekend over De Ketelaere deal

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan are going to spend the weekend waiting to hear from Club Brugge about whether a deal for Charles De Ketelaere can be done, a report claims.

As has been reported by Corriere dello Sport today, Milan told the Belgian champions that they want to hear from them very soon after the meeting in Brugges on Wednesday.

Milan technical director Paolo Maldini and sporting director Frederic Massar appear to be growing impatient with the situation and if they do not hear anything over the weekend then they could start to pursue other targets more readily.

Milan do not seem willing to go above their offer of €30 million + €2 million of bonuses. Club Brugge want to receive at least €35 million for their attacking midfielder.

In terms of other targets for the Rossoneri to pursue, there is Chelsea attacker Hakim Ziyech as well as names like Nicolo Zaniolo, Domenico Berardi and Piotr Zielinski.

  1. I hope milan just give that 3 million because it would be a really bad look to spend all this time on our reported “primary target” and miss out on him for 1-5 mil

    1. It would be on-brand for Milan and Maldini to miss out on a target over 2,3 million.
Simakan , spent most of the summer negotiating and even on the last day of the window send a jet to pick him up. No deal over 2 mil
Faivre, spent all summer negotiating to a point where the kid got so tired he decided not to travel with his team to their game. No deal over 2,3 million.
I honestly don’t expect signings until August 30 and it will be someone of the mold of Messias, Florenzi

      1. Vlae, look at the transfers M&M made. Other teams are jealous on the way they spent their money. And you take Florenzi (who did Well btw) and Messias as examples? Hah ridiculous… Tomori 30mil, Theo 18mim, Bennacer 15mil, Maignan 15mil, Kalulu 1mil!!! And go on.. Aren’t these better deals on paper than the 35m CDK deal?
Btw if you are a fan for a while, should not be new to you that Milan likes to hold on until they very last moment, they’ve always liked that strategy. M&M remind me a bit of Galliani in that way.
Point I wanna make, no reason to be so pessimistic on every transfer comment. We are Champions for God sake, put on your Jersey proudly and get ur ass outside

    2. Where do you draw the line though? If Milan up their bid by a few more million again, but then so do Leeds and Brugge ask Milan to match, do they need to keep ‘just’ increasing the bid 1-5m?

At some point you draw a line and say “this is not good value”

      1. That’s a valid argument but that wasn’t the case for neither Simakan, Faivre nor for De Ketelaere. Neither of their clubs raised the bar, Milan just didn’t want to meet their valuation, which is fine but why do you spend so much time on a player just to not get him over 2 mil

        1. Simakan and Faivre..

We only went for Simakan the last minute because we needed a striker badly and we then signed Giroud. It was a good move. It wasn’t because of Money. Giroud was simply the better option.

As for Faivre.. it wasn’t money either. Faivre’s attiture put M&M off. No matter who shows interest, you NEVER disrespect your own club.

          1. Simakan is a central defender my friend. We didnt get anyone instead, Kalulu filled up that gap. Otherwise I can see ur point

  2. I don’t know why they keep mentioning players like Berardi, Zaniolo or Ziyech as a substitute!? Well they’re pure RW! CDK is primarily intended for a different role !

  3. Come on, fans! We mustn’t spend over that there €32M for an untested player like this “you know who”…
He would be in the champions league with the great ACMilan.
The way I feel, Charlie Chaplin should put pressure on his club to leave!

    1. To Sam White “who knows everything”:
Tomori was unknown before and cost €28M, Leao was around €30M. The world changes, pal. You can’t always get “well-known and tested” players with €30M something.

      1. Tomori was on Chelsea which is one of the wealthiest clubs on the planet. Not unknown. And are you willing to bet that CDK has anywhere near the talent and potential Leao has?

        1. CDK and Leao are 2 totally different players . In a position he plays CDK has as much potential as Leao.
Don’t forget Milan waited 2.5 years for Leao to show he was worth the 30+ Milan invested in him. CDK is only a year older than what Leao was when he made the move.
CDK far more established player at age 21 than Leao was at that age and even later

          1. Hard disagree. CDK might have potential to become a world class player but Leao could be a Ballon d’Or winner in the future. They are worlds apart.

      2. Tomori had plenty of Premier League experience and was initially signed with no obligation to pay, neither applies here

        1. Exactly. People say they trust M&M out of one side of their mouth and criticize out of the other. They don’t rate this kid at 35m or better. It’s that simple. And what kind of negotiators would they be if they simply paid the asking price and kicked on? They buy at the price they value the player or they don’t buy. I actually appreciate that tactic from them.

  4. Maldini got Tonali for 20 mil because Tonali was absolute trash his 1st season at Milan where he was on loan. Plus Brescia was in serie B and Tonali only wanted Milan so Brescia had no leverage

    1. Nevertheless we got a player whose value has nearly tripled and was a key player in the Scudetto. Who is to say that CDK doesn’t struggle as much or worse in his first season? Don’t believe the hype. M&M have a valuation for his talent/potential and they won’t exceed it. We shouldn’t want them to.

      1. That all would be OK if the difference is 10 mil. If you are willing to spend 32 mil on a CDK than you believe that he could be great, so what is extra 3 million?
And you said Leao could be balloon d’Or winner. That will happen only if he stays in Italy where he can bully and outrun, slow, less physical serie A defenders. He goes to EPL and almost all defenders and full backs are as strong and fast as him. His silly 1 tricik move, step over kick the ball and run around the defender wont work there. Leao hype is because of Serie A tax.
CDK has proven in UCL and like I said at 21 CDK is a better player than Leao was at 21

        1. Leao will leave for a club that actually invests to win Champions League

This flo dude is fanboy, he believe every deal can be a discount and other teams will keep falling for it!

          1. At least call me a fan man since I’m nearly 40 years old. Leao may leave for a team that has more money to invest in UCL. We don’t. We are still climbing out of the hole dug for us by the last owner who overspent on mediocre players. We went from Europe league spots to champions in 4 years. That’s pretty good. And to say if we don’t get this ONE player we won’t have improved our squad by the end of the transfer window is presumptuous. We don’t know what other deals they are working on.

        2. This isn’t Monopoly money. 3 million euros is still 3 million euros. More than most people see in their entire lifetime. It could be used to secure a loan for a player in a position we need to bolster for the volume of games we will be playing, or to give a pay rise to those on the squad who have already earned it with their performances for Milan. And you keep talking about UCL as if CDK bossed games. He managed 0 goals and 1 assist in 6 games for the Brugges in Champions League play last season. The jump from Belgium to Italy is much greater than Italy to England. I will say yet again you and I sit here and watch games and form opinions, but it’s the opinion of the club that matters. They will pay for him what they think is fair or they will move on. That’s business.

          1. Even if Milan were as wealthy as PSG why on earth would we want them to overpay for players? Or simply meet every teams asking price without trying to get a discount? A fool and his money are soon parted—we need only look at the Banter era to see what happens when you spend large amounts on players whose performances don’t match the transfer fees we paid. Let’s remain calm and put our faith in M&M…at least for now coming off the back of a championship season.

          2. Bro we are talking about a billion dollar company, which Milan is, not regular people.
Milan probably brings in 3 mil just from attendance at home games .
Milan tried that don’t spend the extra 2,3 mil last year to bolster other positions. How that worked out
            Bakayoko useless
            Ballo Toure useless
            Pelegri useless
Messias couldn’t play for the first 2,3 months of the season because his fitness wasn’t up to serie a standard
Florenzi every couple months has surgery that will make him miss a month.
All those players contribute very little to nothing . Imagine if their salaries, loan fees or cheap transfer fees were used for the extra 2 mil for Faivre or this year the extra 3 mil for CDK.
If you like the player where you negotiate for h for months than u spend the extra 2,3 mil

        3. And yet we won the Scudetto. Hmm. A bad mercato? You have made my point. Some players pan out and some don’t. It’s ok if Ballo Toure doesn’t pan out because he costs 5m. That’s a significantly smaller gamble than 35m.

          1. How big is the difference between a 32 mil gamble that Milan is prepared to make vs a 35 mil gamble. You forgetting that Milan wants this player , negotiates for him , flew to Belgium.
Milan isn’t winning the scudetto with same poor transfer window again . Last summer all serie A teams got worse, this year Inter, juventus, Roma are getting better. Milan has gotten worse because lost a starter in kessie and a fringe starter in Romagnoli. Both hasn’t been replaced yet. With the obvious holes at 10, RW and back up left back still there

        4. Right so we need a CB and a CM. CDK is neither. We have brought in a new challenger for number 10 spot(Adli). And we still need to bolster LB and RW, so where exactly does CDK fit in. Also we can’t assume if we do get him we’ll walk into the starting squad and help us to escape UCL group. Everybody just needs to chill and stop equating our getting this ONE player with the quality of this window or our prospects for the next season.

        5. Bringing in Sanches and Ziyech would make us more UCL ready than bringing CDK. He is one for the future not immediate impact. The management has to improve on last seasons performance while still build I towards the future. Let’s evaluate the transfer window at the end.

      2. Don’t believe the hype..then why believe anything. After all tested and trusted players have become flops and cheap unknown players have become greats .

Your argument don’t make any sense, a mercato comes with several caveats it’s almost like a lottery & depends on how shrewd and wise the management get.

With the kind of behaviour pushed by the Milan owners Leo would list likely been our player today, not with the money_bag clubs that exist on the planet today.

          1. So it was under these same owners and with the same strategies we acquired Leao, Theo, Tomori, Tonali, Kalulu….

    2. I’m sorry but you are completely wrong. We got Tonali for 20M but your also forgetting we included our top primavera talent at the time (Holzer?) who has a value of 10M. So we did in essence spend approx 30M for Tonali.

        1. I totaly agree with flo. I said it many times, when your competition is only Leeds and Leicester, you know something is not right. Different with renato sanchez case which PSG also wants him, although it maybe an agent bluff for rising price.

  5. Wow… reading everyone saying, just give them the extra $2-3 mil.what happens if we value him $25mil only,….and have raised to $30mil… oh, just another $2-3 mil…and another. Why don’t you guys sign a cheque for Maldini to close the deal…. Oh yeah, because you”re happy to spend someone else’s money for your pleasure….go figure

    1. Exactly! You support the club or no? You think M&M don’t know what they’re doing? Maybe we go back to spending 35m on players like Andre Silva and Piatek and they’ll be happy.

    2. Well if you only have money for a Toyota why are you inside a dealership trying to buy a Mercedes? For months offering bellow demand ,wasting everyone’s time hoping that they will feel sorry for you and give you a discount when another buyers is willing to pay above price to get the car

      1. Have you ever bought anything of major value like a car or house before? You don’t simply satisfy the sellers demands and consider that a successful negotiation.

        1. @Flossonero – Yes you do if you want it something bad enough lol. And @Zdero is correct – if you can’t afford a Mercedes – go buy a Toyota. Otherwise stop wasting time and move on.

It’s obvious M&M want CDK, they wouldn’t have wasted all of this time otherwise – and I believe if it were up to M&M they would meet Bruges 35M valuation. This isn’t about M&M and not trusting them – this is about ownership not backing them. M&M aren’t stupid. The price from Brugge has always been 35M. They haven’t increased or decreased it. CDK has 3 years left on his deal. We have no leverage. We’ve been told countless times by Brugge they want 35M – hasn’t changed. Leeds offered 37M. Brugge hasn’t said well now we want 37M. No. It’s 35M and it’s always been 35M. I don’t believe M&M are trying to get a “discount” from Brugge (because there isn’t any) but to convince our ownership to give the extra 2-3M to get this deal done. Those that say we need to draw a line in the sand at 32M. Fine. We did and Brugge is telling us to piss off its 35M. Very simple. We either pay 35M or move on. And even if Brugge said on Monday ok we will accept the 32M. What have we really gained? 3M? What does that buy you in world football? Not even Messias or Florenzi lol. Is that saving 3M worth all the time wasted? We need to get players in to training camp. Seasons starts in less than 3 weeks and it takes time to intergrate new players and build chemistry. We are already behind our rivals. I would have paid 3M just to get this done a month ago to allow CDK time to jell with the team – he would be our CAM our most important position.

We have so many other needs we haven’t done anything about as of yet (RW, CB, DM, Backup LB) because we have no $$$ from ownership to buy. And those fans on here that say “chill we won last season” are Embarassing IMO. Do Real Madrid or Liverpool fans say well we won last season so everyone needs to chill this season? Lol. No they expect greatness and push ownership to constantly improve. We should be no different. Perhaps some fans here forget that. What we did last season means nothing. New year, new season. We are Milan. One of the most storied clubs in the world we should hold these owners accountable and to much higher standards.

          1. History and tradition don’t pay the bills. What’s 3 million? 3 million here, 5 there. No big deal, right? Right now Barcelona is mortgaging their future TV rights for 25 years because of reckless spending. CDK isn’t a Mercedes. He MIGHT be one in the future. Maldini and Co. don’t wanna pay 35m for him or else they would. Case closed. Let’s see what happens when we close the deal at 32m and that extra 3m is the difference between adding someone like Ziyech as well.

          2. “If you want something bad enough.” Again you make the point for me. That have a value for the player. That value is 32m. If the value was 35m, then they would pay that. Obviously they don’t want him bad enough to pay over 32m. Simple.

          3. If you disagree, you disagree with the valuation of the player that M&M have, not me. Nobody from Milan called to ask me how much I think he’s worth LOL

      2. It’s very simple so I don’t know why I have to keep repeating it. Milan value him at 32m. Not 35. Not 37. If you don’t agree don’t argue with me argue with Maldini and Massara.

        1. @Flossonero. Everything you said is on point. Don’t try to argue with the Stup*d. They won’t understand and keep saying bullsh*t they believe in.

Club Brugge changed their demands thrice. 30mil first.. then 40, then now 35.

We had to take a stand and we did. End of Story. Worst case scenario, we don’t get CDK. Tough luck. We move onto other targets.

We are not PSG or CIty. We only have budget available of 60/70 mil because of our shit*y ownership situation. Fans need to UNDERSTAND that. Yes no one likes the situation, but it is what it is.

As for the car analogy, CDK’s prince is of a Mercedes, yes.. but IS CDK A MERCEDES? You just DON’T know. He might be, but then he might be a 50 y/o broken Datsun underneath. That’s the whole point.

        2. I’m with you Flosso, i support your argument and analysis of the transfer market. Is not just about the price tag on the products (CDK), but how M&M valued the player and are ready buy. He is not our only target, but one out of many major roles and backups. We really need stability and blending with the new signings as we prepare for new season.

        3. “And teams like Man U and Juve were in for Tonali. not Leeds and Leicester. That should tell you something.“ LOL. Well I guess according to your comment M&M don’t know what they are doing as why would they pay for a player whether it be at 32M or 35M if you know “only Leeds and Leicester” want him LOL. You make no sense buddy

  6. I totaly agree with flo. I said it many times, when your competition is only Leeds and Leicester, you know something is not right. Different with renato sanchez case which PSG also wants him, although it maybe an agent bluff for rising price.

  7. I thought the same thing – no big clubs is chasing CDK – only bottom feeders Leeds. There is a reason for it, maybe CDK isn’t that good. People say to give Brugge that extra 3 million but they don’t realize that Maldini is working on certain budget – that $3 million extra that Brugge wants could be used for Leao increased salary and I would rather do that than spend it on untested player.

    1. What you fail to grasp is that those “bottom feeders” like Leeds, Leicester, Borussia Monchengladbach, Bayer Leverkusen are Milan level and competition in the market in todays football.
Milan can’t compete with the Real, Atletico, Barca ManUtd, ManCity Chelsea Arsenal Tottenham , Bayern PSG in the market.
Those big clubs can afford to let CDK to go to a smaller club first , develop further and then buy him in 2,3 years for 80,90,100+ mil. Milan can’t .

      1. You make no sense kid. First you said “And teams like Man U and Juve were in for Tonali. not Leeds and Leicester. That should tell you something.” So basically you are saying M&M don’t know what they are doing as why would they go after CDK – whether it be for 32M or 35M – if only teams like Leeds and Leicester” want him LOLOLO. So if we sign him for 32M it’s ok – even though “only teams like Leeds and Leicester” want him but not at 35M Because “only teams like Leeds and Leicester” want him? Ha! You contradict your self friend

    1. We are agreeing. We have $hit owners who won’t spend $$ no argument there. However, Brugge didn’t change their demands, it was always 35M – hasn’t changed. Point was if that was price and we have no intention to meet it – we should focus on other targets like RW, DM and CB, etc…Use Adli/Diaz/Krunic as CAM and spend on a RW and sign Sanches and N’Dicka.

  9. Lots of good points posted here.

But anyway… there are things that I simply fail to grasp… for instance:: the money that Milan allocated to complete the signing of Messias could now be used to fill the gap concerning Brugge’s demands, thus ending once and for all this damn CDK’s soap opera…

  10. This makes sense. Let’s not sign CDK who is 21, wants to come to Milan, will make 2.5M/season has huge potential and resale value (and CL experience as well at such a young age) for 35M and instead sign Ziyech at 30 yrs old who makes 6M a season who has no resale value for 30M (5M loan + 25M to buy)? LOL. Yup sounds about right. Ya we should def stick to our valuation. Makes perfect sense 🤪🤪🤪
