Milan confirm ongoing talks over Chelsea midfielder but Spurs defender is ‘not a target’

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara shed some interesting light on recent rumours circulating regarding the Rossoneri’s mercato.

There is an abundance of different speculation surrounding the club at the moment including the idea that Serge Aurier could arrive from Spurs to replace Davide Calabria and that two signings are being lined up in midfield.

Nonetheless, with the team ready to return to training at Milanello today there is not a single senior signing through the door yet.

Maldini spoke alongside Massara and CEO Ivan Gazidis at Milanello on Tuesday in the first media appearance of the new season, with the questions and answers transcribed by MilanNews.

On Bakayoko, the former club captain confirmed: “It is an ongoing negotiation, we know the player and appreciate him. He is one of our objectives, the formulas are still to be studied 100%.”

Meanwhile, Massara then addressed the rumours that Aurier could arrive from Spurs.

“There are many names that are linked to us. Aurier is an excellent player, but at the moment there are no conditions to think about him. He is not a target.”

The sporting director even suggested that Davide Calabria could stay, which after the reported vote in confidence given to Andrea Conti means Milan might not make any changes at right-back.

“He is a product in our youth sector. Often the value of these players is downplayed. In recent years he has done well and we do not consider him on the market,” he said.

  1. Amazing!
So in other words, Elliot set the budget at 30 millions, and demanded top 4 finish.
Now somehow they gave vote of confidence and they won’t fix the most problematic position in our squad…
    Happy 2013 everyone!
