Winning was the only result that would have realistically kept AC Milan’s top four hopes alive, and yet the defeat against Bologna has opened up another crisis.
As Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) write this morning, after the defeat against Torino on Saturday, we expected to see a gritty Milan side who were determined to take home the three points and keep alive hopes of a Champions League place.
Not even taking the lead just before half-time allowed Sergio Conceiçao’s team to turn the page and recover, with a second-half collapse condemning the Rossoneri to their fifth defeat since he took over as the head coach.
Milan relied on their best players at the Stadio Renato dall’Ara, but with the exception of Leao – who scored the goal – they were ‘betrayed’ by practically everyone. Sadly, this includes Santiago Gimenez, who missed an early chance and was outdone by Santiago Castro, the Bologna striker.
After the game, Conceiçao made it very clear that he is feeling the pressure as he launched into quite a bizarre tirade, including stating: “If I’m the problem, I’ll leave even for free.” It serves as further confirmation of the ‘toxic atmosphere’ that can be felt around Milanello.
While on the one hand Conceiçao let out all the tension, on the other Leao remained calm and took responsibility on behalf of the players for the difficult and complicated moment that the team are going through.
Making promises at this point in the season is rather useless, but the Portuguese called for a bit of unity to try bounce back immediately, starting with Sunday’s match against Lazio. But everyone will have to want it, not just him and a select few others.
“Milan relied on their best players at the Stadio Renato dall’Ara”
Correction: Milan relied on 10 of their best players plus Felix.

Gonna get worst before it gets better. This team doesn’t play for each other.
People trash players like Musah and Jimenez. It’s not their fault that they’re not that talented. At least they give everything. Expecting more is just a premeditated resentment.
Can’t say the same for others. Felix top of that list.
