Journalist gives Milan ‘45%’ chance of signing De Ketelaere; discusses Gakpo and Sergio Gomez

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are continuing to monitor the European market for young talent that could give a fresh boost to their project, including Belgium and the Netherlands.

Alec Cordolcini – a journalist for Guerin Sportivo and an expert on the Belgian like – spoke to MilanNews about the Rossoneri’s reported interest in the Club Brugge duo Charles De Ketelaere and Noa Lang.

He remarked that the negotiation for De Ketelaere is indeed under way but that ‘the problem of the price must be solved because it is a considerable expense’. Brugge know that the playmaker is being watched by many clubs so they want to make as much as possible, which means the Milan management ‘will have to find the right formula’.

“In 4-2-3-1 he is ideal to play behind the striker or as a winger but in the past he has also been a pure midfielder. Let’s say that, in particular situations, he can cover the midfield and attack. Paradoxically he can also play as a false nine or mobile striker. The greatest quality of him is adaptability,” he added.

When asked what chance of success the operation has, Cordolcini added: “45%, it depends a lot on what happens with Noa Lang”.

He believes that the two operations are ‘closely related’ because it is ‘unlikely that Brugge will let them both leave to the same team’ because they have aims of doing better in Europe.

Finally, Cordolcini was asked if there are any other names from Belgium or Holland that he believes Milan are interested in.

“I think so. I would not be surprised if, in the next few days, interest emerges in Sergio Gomez of Anderlecht, a really good left winger, and Cody Gakpo of PSV Eindhoven. Young, ready and future-oriented, as Milan seeks them,” he said.

  1. “I would not be surprised if, in the next few days, interest emerges…” is next level speculation. Not even pretending there is anything there, just throwing random names around and saying “huh, maybe these?”
