Milan defender Gabbia dedicates ‘dream’ Serie A debut to grandparents

By Oliver Fisher -

Matteo Gabbia has described his Serie A debut for AC Milan as a ‘dream come true’ following Monday night’s 1-0 win over Torino.

It was a bit of a wasteful performance from the Rossoneri at San Siro, however they obtained the victory thanks to a first half effort from Ante Rebic.

In the 44th minute Pioli was forced into a chance as young centre-back Gabbia came on, replacing Simon Kjaer who landed awkwardly when clearing a ball for a corner.

Gabbia spoke to Milan TV about the emotion of the occasions, and his words were transcribed by MilanNews.it.

“Unique, it’s gorgeous. It was a dream I had for 6 years, when I came to the stadium with my grandparents. I dedicate this milestone to them and I thank everyone,” he said.

“During the week I try to do my best, dreams can come true. I also thank my team-mates from last year because they made me grow, now I have to keep my feet on the ground.

When asked when he first felt a proper part of the senior side, Gabbia responded: “Let’s say I never had a moment when I thought ‘now I am part of this team’. It is already a dream for me to see the players I play with every day, I am happy. I still have to prove a lot.”
