CorSport: Milan’s defensive solidity has vanished – the worrying numbers

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan’s defensive record has not been the best so far this season after it was possibly the biggest strength of the Scudetto win.

Today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) write how the Rossoneri have conceded nine goals in five games to begin 2023, which has contributed a lot to the dip in form given the lack of a clean sheet.

Milan are back in action on Tuesday against Lazio hoping to bounce back from the Supercoppa defeat against Inter, and Ciro Immobile will miss the match against Pioli’s side, but that does not mean there can be any less focus.

After Napoli’s win on Saturday, the Rossoneri must win to get it back to a nine-point gap. However, the game against the Biancocelesti will not be easy, with the Kalulu-Tomori pairing likely to be tasked with stopping the likes of Zaccagni, Felipe Anderson and Luis Alberto.

The last time that Milan kept a clean sheet was the 0-0 draw against Cremonese back in early November, and the total says only four clean sheets in 18 games, two with Mike Maignan in goal and two more with Tatarusanu between the posts.

  1. Fatigue of world cup has taken a toll on Milan. However it’s better to have a bad run of results now than later in the season. Milan needs to step up from FEB onwards
