The derby can often defy logic, and AC Milan are certainly hoping that will be the case for the fourth time this season against Inter.

Today’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews) has a section previewing tonight’s game which is titled: ‘Conceiçao-Inzaghi: the derby of opposites’. It focuses on the juxtaposition of the fates of the two coaches, but also the two clubs.

It seems that Conceicao’s path is already traced and at the end of the season he will say goodbye to Milan even if he were to win the Coppa Italia. The results have not been good enough, and the fact that his team sit ninth in the table will ultimately cost him.

Meanwhile, Inzaghi dreams of the Treble. Inter are in the Champions League quarter-finals with Bayern Munich to come next, and they are first in the league with Napoli their main rivals on that front. Not only that, but the Italian coach is believed to be heading for a contract extension.

Despite having much more solid foundations and performing better on the field, the Nerazzurri have not yet won a Milan derby this season and are still without a trophy. This is unlike Milan, who lifted the Supercoppa Italiana at the beginning of 2025 by beating Inter in the final.

Speaking at his press conference yesterday afternoon, Conceiçao seemed aware of the contrasting moments: “The derby is always an important match, for the context, for everyone. The moments are different. Now there are some different players on the pitch and we’ll try to play a good match.

“Inter are a very strong team, with solid work, but we want to enter the match strong and achieve what we want, which is to win.” The field, as always, is what will do the talking.

  1. i mentioned it on another post. This game is the perfect recipe for an upset. Us, in a complete mess, both on and off the pitch. No clear identity, no strategy, no stability and in complete chaos. While inter is a well oiled machine and has been for a while. Inter with their eyes on UCL and Scudetto will look at us and underestimate us. As for Milan, this is the type of game Theo and Leao do well, everything clicks, we show our potential, we win the game. And move on to lose the next 3 serie A games. LOL it’s our pattern. We beat madrid, then we suck for a month. Beat a top 4 team, then lose/tie with the bottom 3

    1. Typically Milan my friend lollll. We are here to beat Inter even though we are 20 points behind them. What a shame
