CM: Pioli, Maldini and Massara all want Atalanta winger with mid-August assault possible

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli wants a reinforcement for the right wing and is a big admirer of Josip Ilicic, according to a report.

Calciomercato.com reports that the Slovenia international is not part of the plans for Gian Piero Gasperini and for Atalanta, and as a result the forward is pushing to go to Milan. Pioli is a big fan of the player because he is a different profile to Alexis Saelemaekers, useful to create the numerical superiority in match against teams who play deep.

Not only that, but he is capable of contributing goals and assists too, given he has 56 goals and 39 assists in 149 games for La Dea. Paolo Massara and Ricky Maldini believe the 33-year-old could be the right reinforcement for the right side, and his arrival would not exclude the signing of a new attacking midfielder.

Milan want Ilicic, but on favourable terms considering that he is no longer very young and has no place at Atalanta. The current idea is to make an attempt in mid-August by offering Atalanta a loan with option to buy deal or a small amount of €3m.

The request of the Bergamo-club however is €8m, too much for Massara and Maldini. The Diavolo are convinced that Ilicic’s desire to join Milan could help push things through.
