GdS: Milan enjoying the ‘SuperGiroud’ at the World Cup with renewal to be discussed

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have been able to watch on and smile as Olivier Giroud scored three goals at the World Cup in Qatar and thus became the all-time top scorer in the history of the French national team.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) recall how many thought he wouldn’t even participate in the tournament in Qatar, but since he arrived at Milan the forward has been experiencing a second youth and Didier Deschamps was not really left with a choice but to call him up. Then, Karim Benzema’s injury gave the 36-year-old a starting spot.

Giroud spoke yesterday ahead of the quarter-final against England scheduled for Saturday at 20:00 CET about his year and a half with the Rossoneri and how it has helped him shine on multiple fronts again.

“When I arrived at Milan, I must say that I was disappointed to have left London and the Premier League but for me it was the right time for a new challenge. I had an opportunity to play for the great Milan, I was very excited, I knew I still had some good years ahead of me and I was confident. We won the Scudetto in our first year and I want to do even more for this club,” he said.

Milan are looking at a ‘SuperGiroud’ and are waiting for him to return with open arms ahead of the resumption of the season early in January.

The renewal of Giroud’s contract – which expires on June 30 – will also be talked about. The common desire is to move forward together, but after the his exploits at the World Cup the player could ask for an increase in salary, especially if other higher offers arrive.
