February is the shortest month of the calendar year. Yet, it is a victim of football’s seemingly never-ending calendar. The second month of 2024 sees AC Milan playing six challenging fixtures in Serie A and the Europa League.
After the Rossoneri were drawn to play Stade Rennais in the Europa League, their calendar received an unwelcomed, but expected, duo of fixtures – adding to an already heavily congested month. The additional fixtures mean that the side will play a game every four days on average.
Stefano Pioli’s side will start the month with an away fixture against Frosinone. The following weekend, they will face Napoli at the San Siro before a midweek clash with Rennes. The Diavolo will then travel to the Stadio Brianteo to play Monza before travelling to France for their second leg of the Europa League tie against Rennes. Three days later, Pioli’s side will face Atalanta at the San Siro to round off the month of fixtures.
The three fixtures surrounding the Europa League games, Napoli, Monza and Atalanta serve as three very difficult fixtures that the Diavolo must earn close to maximum points from, regardless of the congestion – if they are to prove their capabilities as a team that should be challenging at the top of Serie A.
4th February: Frosinone vs. AC Milan
11th February : AC Milan vs. Napoli
15th February: AC Milan vs. Stade Rennais
18th February: Monza vs. AC Milan
22nd February: Stade Rennais vs. AC Milan
25th February: AC Milan vs. Atalanta
It is worth noting that the calendar is subject to change, with the days and times of Milan’s Serie A fixtures set to be finalised this week. Regardless, the calendar is still brutal and will need to be managed effectively by Pioli.
