GdS: Milan squad followed Inter-Atalanta from Milanello as opportunity arises

The AC Milan team remain focused on tonight’s game against Lazio, but they were keeping an eye on evenings in Inter-Atalanta too.

Milan knew they needed to beat Inter last weekend to keep the Scudetto race even slightly open, and they emerged 1-0 victors to cut the gap to seven points. The Nerazzurri’s draw with Atalanta yesterday means that Milan would reduce the gap to five points with a win tonight.

Squad awareness

As La Gazzetta dello Sport report, Massimiliano Allegri made a point of not talking about the Scudetto at yesterday’s press conference, and he instead said that he is more focused about the chasing pack and securing a top four spot.

It is impossible to deny that the approximately 10,000 Milan fans who will be at the Stadio Olimpico tonight will be thinking about closing the gap to first, however. Even the team are a bit interested in what’s going on.

At the end of yesterday afternoon’s session, some players checked the Inter-Atalanta score in the changing room on their cell phones. Not only that, but others watched the final minutes in the clubhouse at Milanello.

While none of it matters much if the Rossoneri are unable to emerge from the capital with a victory tonight, it does perhaps demonstrate some awareness within the team that a chance might just be presenting itself.
