CorSport: Milan forced to evaluate sale as Leao plans to wait over renewal

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have not made any recent progress on Rafael Leao’s renewal and they could well be forced to accept a sale, a report claims.

Leao has not scored a goal since the 2-2 draw against Lecce back on January 14 but Sunday’s win over Atalanta at San Siro showed he can be decisive anyway, with the Portuguese forward registering an assist with a gorgeous through ball to Junior Messias to make it 2-0.

Today’s Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) talks about Leao’s future and recalls his words prior to the game at the weekend: “I’m fine at Milan, I feel good. Let’s see what happens at the end of the season.”

Essentially, the plan of Leao is to postpone everything until the end of the year. Milan hoped to be able to get the ex-Lille star to sign an extension much earlier, even before the World Cup, but the agreements have not arrived.

The dialogue continues and seems to be constructive, but there is still no agreement and if one does not arrive by the summer then Milan will have to seriously consider selling him, given that his deal expires in June 2024.

  1. Milan calculating too much, and the destiny of Leao when he leaves the Milan will be the same as all roster in Chlesea: unpredictable. That means he will not have opportunities to play like in Milan. Bit that dude needs the money as like his representatives.
For ac milan concernes; they are wasting the time and that means they losing the money. This season Milan might reach one of 4 first position but that’s not for sure and still that’s gambling. Milan will not be able to cash in hundred of million in summer for him, and you can tell his play dropped in time when agreements didn’t find in time for a new contract. In least year he will be more miserable, thinking about next club and less focus on play.
Leao is unusable for Milan for now.

    1. “Leao is unusable for Milan for now.”

Not to the fanboys. They still love him and think he’s better than Maradona, Pele, Messi & both Ronaldos combined. 🙂

  2. Everyone knows he’s leaving. He’s already directly implied it without actually saying it anyway.

The only case he stays is if there are no offers and that’s very unlikely.

Just start the bidding NOW. Don’t wait until it’s too late like with the past 3 players who left.
