GdS: Milan left frustrated as Chelsea loanee is determined to remain until June

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are expected to have some difficulties in securing a new destination for Tiemoue Bakayoko despite the number of interested clubs, a report claims.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) confirm the obvious by stating that Bakayoko is not part of Milan’s plans for the rest of the season having not been used at all by Stefano Pioli so far in the current campaign.

The midfielder is on loan until 30 June from Chelsea and many speculated that his loan could be terminated a few months in advance, but in reality at the moment the most probable hypothesis is that the Frenchman will remain at Milanello until the end of the season.

This is not an ideal scenario for the Rossoneri and it is one that weighs on the finances given Milan are responsible for paying a part of his €5m per year gross salary, so a farewell would have allowed the Diavolo to free up funds and a spot in the squad.

The 28-year-old is not lacking in offers despite barely playing, just as he was not lacking in the summer when Olympiacos strongly wanted him and seemed close to an agreement, but then the negotiation fell through last minute due to Bakayoko’s stalling.

The Chelsea man also has some offers on the table now, but for the moment he is rejecting them all because he is determined to stay at Milan until June, even though he knows that he will never see the field.

  1. Just negotiate with Chelsea and see how you can get this guy on a free transfer. Pretty sure the main reason why he doesn’t play is that Milan don’t want to trigger the purchase clause. Perhaps he can do the work of Kessie and maybe even better. 🙂

    1. Milan tried that. Expecting him to be a like for like with Kessie. Unfortunately he’s just not very good. Would probably be a good get for a mid table club but he’s not Milan quality.

  2. lol why would he not stay? he gets to do nothing and make millions. guy has the easiest life in the world and we helped give it to him. well done milan….

  3. Milan dont want 2 play him because when he reaches a certain of games. Milan will have 2 buy him.. that’s why hes not playing.. so good luck 2 him; getting good money 4 doing nothing..

  4. Why is Bakayoko greedy? Pedestrian yes lol. But greedy? Why? Because he wants to honor his contract? We agreed to the loan knowing his full salary and agreed to pay for it. If anything we misjudged his ability to play for Pioli. A player is greedy when he wants to stay and ungrateful if he wants to leave? Lol. Which one is it. When a player blows up we want to keep him at his small salary for the length of his contract BUT when he sucks we want him to leave or take a huge pay cut. Can’t have it both ways. We gambled on Bakayoko and it didn’t work out. He knows it’s his last big contract so he wants to get his money. He will never make 5M/season again. It’s his right. For most players sports is a business. Not all players die for the shirt unfortunately. We made a mistake now if he doesn’t want to leave so not much we can do. It’s not like American sports wherein players contracts can be traded. Maybe that is something that should be instituted. But it is what it is now. In June he will be off the books for good and good riddance
