CorSport: Milan to announce contract extension of centre-back in the coming days

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will announce the renewal of a defender in the coming days or weeks and it is not Theo Hernandez, according to a report.

As reported by il Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) this morning, the renewal of Matteo Gabbia will be announced in the coming days as the 22-year-old will extend his contract until 2026. The Rossoneri management have decided to reward the defender for being ready in moments of difficulty for the team.

The Italy U21 international will earn just over €1m net per season as part of extending his deal with the club, having been thrust into prominence over the last few weeks given the emergency in the defensive department, when he partnered Pierre Kalulu due to Kjaer, Romagnoli and Tomori all being out.

It is also a sign that Milan see Gabbia’s future as being in red and black, ending the hypothesis of a sale for a capital gain, at least in the near future.
