CorSera: Milan get the job done in Croatia with overwhelming performance

AC Milan can face the game against Red Bull Salzburg next week knowing a draw is enough to reach the Champions League knockout stages after a 4-0 rout of Dinamo Zagreb.

Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) writes how Milan overwhelmed Dinamo Zagreb yesterday at the Stadion Maksimir with a romping 4-0 victory and now, thanks to Chelsea’s victory against Salzburg, next Wednesday against the Austrians a point will be enough to earn qualification for the round of 16 of the Champions League.

Thinking the job is done would be foolish, but last night the Rossoneri took a very important step to reach the first target of the season. After a first half hour with some difficulties, Milan broke the deadlock in the first half with Matteo Gabbia and then bust the game open with goals from Rafael Leao, Olivier Giroud and an own-goal form Ljubicic.

Stefano Pioli’s side could have scored even more as Giroud had several efforts saved, plus Rade Krunic and then Ante Rebic wasted one-on-one opportunities. What counted last night was the result, however, and Milan absolutely did their duty.

Leao, Gabbia, Tonali and Bennacer displayed maturity in their performances while De Ketelaere still disappointed, as the Belgian had started the match well but then got lost and missed a big chance.
