CM: Milan planning ahead for 2023-24 – two signatures expected in the next week

By Oliver Fisher -

Two contract signings are expected to take place at Casa Milan before the end of next week as planning has begun for next season, a report claims.

Calciomercato.com report that the Rossoneri management are aiming to make the renewal of Olivier Giroud until 2024 official by Friday at the latest. The Frenchman is also expected to get a small rise in his salary from €3.5m net per season to €4m per year, which is the same as Divock Origi gets.

Then, it will be time for Marco Sportiello to put pen to paper on a pre-contract agreement that will kick in in July. Paolo Maldini had tried to bring forward his arrival in January but Atalanta were not interested, but Milan will still get their man.

He is expected to sign his deal next week and the experienced goalkeeper will take the place of Ciprian Tararusanu in the squad, whose deal expires on June 30.

  1. Why, why, why would you pay two glorified benchwarmers 4M each? If anything Giro should be taking a salary cut. He will be 37 next year, and even slower than he is now. Though I’m not sure that is possible, if he moves any slower he’ll go back in time. 2M to warm our bench should be way more than enough. Origi should also take a pay cut, or should be sold.

Neither of them have produced anything close to what we are paying them.

    1. “Back to the future” teaches us that to go back in time you actually have to move really really fast.

Other than that I agree completely!!
They are penny-pinching for Leao but throw stupid salaries at washed up bench players. This inconsistency is completely backwards – if they want to overspend on salaries, then overspend on stars insted of fringe players.

  2. M&M&M may know how to scour talent – but they do not know how to negotiate contracts. Love Giroud and he should be resigned/extended but as a backup – not for increased pay. Sportiello is too little too late. We needed him this January. All to save a few million. TY Elliot

  3. The oldies are getting a pay raise?? Why can’t Milan get a new striker, sell Origi, and bench Giroud??
That way they can pay Origi’s salary to someone who can play and score regularly, while Giroud who scores once in every 5-6 games can score important ones off the bench!

  4. Milan will not be the same anymore because the owner and management seem to be confused. Between Giroud, Zlatan and Origi we have to remain with one of them to deputise the new striker and help the coach to manage the dressing room. Vasquez and Sportielo will all be deputy to Mignan and no budget to strengthen other departments . Which kind of transfer strategy?

    Pray for our beloved Milan

  5. You guys need to understand that we don’t have money to buy young world class striker….Hence, we settle for the less.

    1. And that would make sense if Kolo Muani wasn’t free, but we opted out for Origi.

You can buy a decent, young striker for 20m to 30M, Noah Okafor for example is 25M. Monkada can find 50 of those, blindfolded in a matter of seconds. Problem is our management. They seem to have lost the plot.

And I know, none of those are “world class” but when you’re owned by a broke Murican, you have to settle with a young player with a potential of being world class.

Shame our coach can’t work with those.

We already have a “decent striker” who doesn’t need a transfer fee. We’d need a significant upgrade over Giroud if we were to get a new striker. But as long as the REAL ISSUE (ie. lack of creativity and scoring chances) isn’t being handled, it wouldn’t matter even if we had Haaland as CF as the service is seriously lacking.

      1. You think to identify a young striker who will turn out to be Martinez is that easy ? It’s very easy to criticise people when u yourself is not at corridor of decision

          1. look, i did a fast lookaround. Marcos Leonardo from santos, Eyle Wahl – Montpellier, Brain Brobbey Ayax. Now im not saying they the next big thing but they have potential to be good forwards.
Anastasios Douvikas, top goal sccorer of Eredivisie, are they lookinga at him for a potenitial transfer?
Gotta keep a finger on the pulse to get them early and cheapish

          2. “Now im not saying they the next big thing but they have potential to be good forwards.”

Potential? Just like Cutrone, Lazetic, Colombo, Nasti etc.? We need something way more than just “potential”. We need a new number one striker guaranteed to hit the net +15 times per season. Now (well, actually next season). Not in 5 years.

  6. 500kpa sounds like a big payrise to most of us – he should be happy that we want to renew him for another year. I guess he has been injury-free which is more than you can say for our other strikers.
