MN: Milan have clear ideas on how to keep growing – RedBird should add further impetus

By Oliver Fisher -

Last season’s Scudetto win showed the development that AC Milan have made on the field over the past three years, but now there is the desire for further growth.

MilanNews talks about the now achievable hopes of qualifying for the Champions League last 16 after the 4-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb, while shows that Milan are accelerating their development and have no intention of stopping, but the ambition remains ‘growth in all areas’,

CEO Ivan Gazidis stressed the idea during yesterday’s Shareholders’ Meeting, in which he explained – albeit in slightly more technical words – what the Milan project is off the pitch and how that affects thing son the field.

“Every year we will grow, this revenue growth means that it is possible to do bigger things in the market. The money is available to invest in all aspects of the club, salaries and in the transfer market,” he said.

“When revenues grow it is possible to invest more, the larger the investments and the more we can do in the field if we did things well. And then this means that revenues grow even more.”

It is certainly a concept that sounds familiar given there there has been virtuous circle established for a couple of years now since Elliott Management took over, one that promotes careful investment and cost containment.

The arrival of Gerry Cardinale and RedBird Capital at the head of the club will give further impetus to the Rossoneri project, as Gazidis himself went on to confirm.

“RedBird have great competence in all areas of sport, particularly commercial, and relations with fans. The RedBird experience will change not only the future of Milan, but also of Italian football,” he said.

The plan is therefore based on key principles: improving results on the field helped by further investment in the squad which is facilitated through improving balance sheets and revenues which comes about from commercial development and increased brand exposure.
