AC Milan made hard work of things at the Stadio Bentegodi last night against Hellas Verona but Sandro Tonali came to the rescue once again.
Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) writes that after the defeat in the Champions League against Chelsea, Milan needed to react immediately in the league and did so by winning at Verona. It was a far from straightforward game against a side who looked fired up for Salvatore Bocchetti’s first game in charge, but Tonali – who scored a brace back on 8 May – scored the winner late on.

The Rossoneri struggled a lot against a Verona side who has just changed coaches and who appeared well up for the fight to the extent that they might have deserved a draw, but in football concentration is needed right until the end.
Stefano Pioli celebrated his 150th match in charge of Milan and while he can be satisfied with the result, the performance left a lot to be desired. Something went wrong, certainly the fatigue (physical and mental) after the Champions League made itself felt, but there is no midweek game this time and so there should be some time to rest up before Monza arrive on Saturday.
After this performance with Verona, I don’t think its right to expect this team to win the title again or beat a team in the size of Chelsea. This team cannot go far in the UCL.
Almost Every team with the amount of games played these days drop in performance but yesterday our weakness in the middle of the park (that has been present from the start of the season) was very clear. When Bennacer & Tonali don’t play we suffer and even when they do we still get overrun . The team needs a concrete box to box(like Kessie) to solidify and bring out the best in Tonali & Benna… Vranckx looks like someone who can be groomed for the rule but Pioli is favouring Pobega who is rather limited . Last year , our midfield was what made the difference and helped our Defense become strong.
