CM: What happens to Milan’s head coach search if Allegri and Italiano vanish

AC Milan may be left with the scraps in the managerial market this summer, with time running out for a decision.

This summer, Milan need a big appointment to bring back the good times, and it seems that they will not have their pick of the bunch. After a dismal season, Sergio Conceicao will leave, and someone new will arrive, but the options are already limited.

As Calciomercato.com write, the road to Vincenzo Italiano has been shut, due to his wishes to continue with Bologna. Then, Massimiliano Allegri, who is a popular candidate, is seemingly heading to Naples to take the reins from Antonio Conte, who is off back to Turin, as reports suggest today.

If things needed any worsening, Roberto De Zerbi is also more likely to stay in France with Marseille than move back to Italy, especially with the club reaffirming their confidence in him after their Champions League qualification.

So, that is four candidates who are unavailable for Igli Tare from the outset. From there, the list offers few names: Thiago Motta, Maurizio Sarri and Roberto Mancini.

It almost feels similar to the decision that brought Tare to the club, which we assessed prior to his arrival, where Milan have to settle for a choice, rather than making their own.

    1. The sad part is that it’s so clear what you have to do… Bring in The Count and let him stabilize Milan. If RedBird has 500mil+ to buy a d@mn newspaper, it sure has 6mil a season to pay Conte. ADL can pay 6mil to that dinosaur Allegri of all people… Come On…

    2. Classic, kids online think Italiano is the new Sacchi because you arent capable of independant thought

  1. Last year everyone was screaming for us to sign Motta (and Zirkzee). Now hes the scraps left on the market?

He was about to finish 4th with a much weaker Juve squad. I would much rather take Motta then Allegri, Mancini and Sarri.

    1. I agree with this. Motto is a good coach. And sometimes failure at a big club (although I would not classify his time at Juve a failure) gives you better insights on what to do next time around. After Conte, he would be my next choice.

    2. I’m with you on that, I’d quite like to give Motta a chance if there’s no option for Conte, we would have been delighted with him a year ago. Whoever comes in is going to (unfairly) be under crazy pressure from day 1 though, so can he cope with that?

    3. He was about WHAT? With the trend of results before his sacking that Juve could end up just 1 or 2 positions ahead of Milan. Nothing more.

  2. If we cannot get Italiano, Gasperini or Fabregas, than my choice would be Xavi for a long term project. He has already won the league with Barcelona, he ha launched several young players. His Barcelona was very solid, conceding very few goals. Of course we would have to change 7-8 players to fit his style of football, but this would be true with almost any coach except Italiano and Gasperini.

  3. Motto seems to have struggled with his man management of the squad at the juventus and majority of the players wanted him out.

That’s a bad sign and I think it would be too risky to get Motta. Milan need a coach who can take players like Leao to the next level and with only 1 game per week the best and only option should be Antonio Conte.

Milan should move heaven and earth to appoint him as coach for next season.

We don’t need another experiment to take over from the chaos this management created. Milan needs a coach with experience to help the squad take the next step to win.

  4. To try to get Conte Milan’s management should have hired Tare a month ago. Now it is too late.
Motta had issues with his players at Juve; I did not like his face expressions during matches. Not ready for a big club.

  5. I don’t understand why ppl keep calling Motta a good alter one season wonder at Bologna. What he couldn’t replicate at Juventus.

To be considered a good coach you have successful 3 season of conviction giving the top 4 team hard time. Something Atlanta have managed to do for bout 5 season now.

  6. How do we feel about Mancini? He’s probably too expensive like most other coaches. But how would he fit with our players thet we have right now? I’m actually totally in the dark about what his style of play is.
