MN: From Roma to Atalanta – Milan’s healing process takes another big step

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan seem to have emerged from their very difficult period with the most recent sign being last night’s impressive 2-0 win over Atalanta.

MilanNews writes how there were two ‘clues’ suggesting things were turning the right way after the 1-0 wins against Torino and Tottenham, a third victory in a row against Monza boosted those hopes and then the victory against a top four rival confirmed that the confidence is back.

Milan are now healed and – after four consecutive victories in a row without conceding – they are heading towards the final three months of the season with a renewed enthusiasm at the perfect time.

Atalanta were nullified from the start with the things that Milan are best at: co-ordinated pressing, a high athletic work rate, quick one-twos when passing, the search for free space, attention and defensive concentration.

The old habit of missing a few chances was there but the positive is that there were more created compared to the previous wins. The returns of Mike Maignan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic from injury must be added to that, two leaders who bring the right mentality.

The Scudetto is now gone but the top four race is now looking much healthier compared to the awful January run, a very dark period that began on a freezing Milanese Sunday evening under the rain at San Siro and Roger Ibanez’s goal in the 87th minute of Milan-Roma.

Last night was a freezing Milanese Sunday evening with rain at San Siro and it was Junior Messias’ goal in the 87th minute of Milan-Atalanta that seemed to finally make it clear that Milan are out of their rut.
