Sergio Conceiçao has been named as the new coach of Milan after the farewell of Paulo Fonseca, but other options were apparently considered.
As Corriere dello Sport reports this morning (via MilanNews), Milan made the call to part ways with Fonseca after the 1-1 draw against Roma but they had seemingly already made their mind up anyway.
They turned to Conceicao having spoken to him prior, who was currently without a team after leaving Porto in the summer. However, the Portuguese not the only coach that the management spoke to about the upcoming vacancy.
On December 24 there was contact between the Rossoneri directors and Maurizio Sarri, who however refused the offer from the Rossoneri. What was put forward was a six-month contract with an option until 2026, though the Italian wanted greater guarantees about the time to work.
Sarri was linked with the Milan job when Stefano Pioli departed a few months ago but he still remains out of a job after leaving Lazio. Some fans might have preferred someone who has experience of coaching and winning in Italy, but Milan have instead gone for Conceicao.
Whether or not it will prove to be the right choice is something the coming weeks and months will tell us, but the fact the leadership tried for Sarri a few days ago shows how chaotic a recent period it has been.
Sing it with me guys:
🎶 “Last Christmas we were up into third,
But the very next year we’re all down in eight,
This year, to save us from tears, Conceicao replaced Fonseca!” 🎶
Sarri wouldn’t be my first choice. Even if I don’t like Alegri too much, he is the only available Italian coach I would have considered for immediate impact on the team. We need a coach who can boost the players mentality into a winning team in Serie A and in Champions League. Not a coach running on luck then go back to playing like a midtable team. A coach who can turn young players into mature ones. Most Italian coach have hard time setting up their team for good play ang repeating high performance against other European in the Champion League.
I would much prefer Sarri over Alegri. Sarri plays better football and alegri has shown that even with a very good squat at Juve he couldn’t do anything. Let’s just see how conceivably does, I’m hopeful.
Yes, Allegri is famous for developing young players. C’mon. He is ok, but his teams play such bad football I would rather be 10th than have Allegri at Milan again.
And look at the rosters Allegri won his scudettos… Those players would have won the trophies even without a coach.
Agree, he is a Twat, inherited a top team from Conte, second time around he farted in a bottle.
Sarri is Genious for him, the issue is that results take time and we tried that.
We got a top manager, let’s hope he has a bit of luck and hopefully 1 or 2 good players in January transfer window. Coming from PT I am hopefull he gets us some talent from there
Sarri, who has won 2 trophies in his entire career against the guy who continually rebuilt teams and kept winning? Allegri is an elite coach, Sarri is a fraud.
You just descrie ed Fonseca, your Christmas wish came true
*won his scudettos with…
No to Sarri, we do not have enough time to implement Sarri-ball. It takes time for players to understand his type of football.
Instead of Sarri, why dont we try someone like Bielsa. He is a genius.
But right now, I wish Conceicao the best.
