Tuttosport: Pioli sees Slovenian playmaker as versatile option but valuation is deemed excessive

By Oliver Fisher -

Josip Ilicic has not completely disappeared as a target for AC Milan, but Atalanta’s requests have reportedly made things difficult.

According to this morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanLive), the Bergamo club are asking for €8million to sell the Slovenia international despite the fact he does not have a great relationship with head coach Gian Piero Gasperini, is 33 years of age and has a contract expiring in less than a year.

An attempt could be made by Milan towards the end of the summer transfer window if Ilicic has not already found another club, because Stefano Pioli admires the player and in particular the tactical versatility he could bring.

Ilicic knows how to operate both as both as an attacking midfielder and as a right winger, even if in the 4-2-3-1 he certainly cannot match the work rate that Alexis Saelemaekers offers. He would be a makeshift solution for Milan, who are finding it difficult to close for other reinforcements at the moment.
