Reports: Milan and Inter both keen on Barcelona defender who could arrive for free

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan and rivals Inter are both examining the possibility of signing Samuel Umtiti in the summer, according to a report.

SPORT in Spain begin an update by citing La Gazzetta dello Sport who claim that Inter are keen on signing Umtiti at the end of the season if he is able to leave Barcelona on a free transfer once his loan spell at Lecce is completed.

Umtiti and Barça have not yet spoken about the future but the player and his entourage already have a strong feeling he is not a part of Xavi Hernández’s plans, so the Blaugrana could well let him terminate his deal so they can save on his salary.

However, the report from SPORT adds that Milan are also interested in the former Lyon defender who is seen as a ‘clear market opportunity’. Lecce for their part have already announced that they would like him to stay but there are doubts about whether Barca will continue to cover a large part of his salary.

Umtiti is very grateful to Lecce for helping him regain confidence and he has felt comfortable in Serie A, but he is clear that he wants a return to playing at a higher level, probably a Champions League.

  1. They should take him and loan Gabbia so he can play. The problem is Milan will offer less wages than Lazio or a similar club. 🤣
