GdS: Fiery Milan derby awaits with a lot at stake – a draw does no good for either team

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan face their city rivals Inter tonight in what could easily be described as a must-win game for both sides in their quest to gain ground in the top four race.

Today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) analyses the derby in the scheme of the race for the Champions League spots, which sees five teams separated by two points, and it makes any head-to-head game have extra meaning.

A draw would be of little use and would be half a defeat for both teams as they would lose ground on their rivals. Milan emerged from the beating by Inter in the Supercoppa very badly with two defeats and nine goals conceded. After the collapse against Roma, four defeats and a draw have resulted.

On the other hand, the Nerazzurri have won six out of eight games but the draw came against Monza through conceding a last minute equaliser and the loss was at home to Empoli. Simone Inzaghi sought balance by talking about the strength of his team, but also recalling that Milan have the Scudetto on their chest.
