CM: Milan and Inter face off as two teams out of rhythm and lacking in intensity

By Oliver Fisher -

If the previous derby in the league had Scudetto implications, tonight’s cup semi-final is a distraction for two sides who are beginning to falter in the league in a big way.

Calciomercato.com writes how the Coppa Italia game at San Siro tonight features two sides that are not experiencing a good moment as they have lost the quality and clarity in their style of play, they are out of rhythm and are unable to show the intensity we have become used to.

Milan dropped points against Salernitana and Udinese while Inter lost to Sassuolo and failed to score against Genoa, with Napoli now leading the Serie A standings but they were destroyed and eliminated in the Europa League by Barcelona only three days prior to taking top spot.

The derby matters a lot because it has shown in the past to be a changing point in momentum at times. In the 2020-21 season Christian Eriksen’s free-kick knocked the Rossoneri out of the cup and in February it was Olivier Giroud’s brace that seemed to knock the Nerazzurri out of their groove.

From the statements of the two coaches, it seems clear that they both want to reach the final and to get a trophy because Pioli has never won one and Simone Inzaghi because he cannot be satisfied with the Italian Super Cup.
