There has been yet another twist in the new stadium saga as the opposition to the project is growing, according to a report.
According to Calciomercato.com, the faction of those who want the Council to say no is rising as the number of councillors that are against the new stadium has risen to nine, and they are asking to discuss the project in the boardroom as soon as possible after the end of the public debate.
In the meantime, Basilio Rizzo and some residents of the area filed a new appeal with the TAR to request the annulment of the latest council resolution in which they acknowledge that Inter and Milan have complied with the conditions requested.
They asked that the ‘resolution for the stadium to be cancelled’ as ‘it does not meet the conditions’ because ‘the re-functionalisation of the remains of the Meazza [San Siro] is lacking’. If this delays things even more, Inter and Milan could even turn to plan B which is the Sesto San Giovanni area.
The mayor of Milano – Beppe Sala – spoke at an event earlier today and commented on the news of an appeal to the TAR by the Gruppo Verde Milano San Siro.
“I have not read the appeal, but it is clear that this is an obstacle course. We must do what is right, on the one hand protect the rights of those who live in those neighbourhoods, on the other of the teams that legitimately ask for a new stadium,” he said.
“After that it is not that we can think of being able to affect everything, and above all on collective consciences. It is a divisive theme. Sometimes I regret that in the face of the many problems that exist in our contemporary society, we talk a little too much about the stadium. It seems that this is our fate in our political season.”

This never ends. Forget San Siro and move on. Before it’s too late.
When this project was first announced they had an estimated completion date for the end of 2024, we now won’t see the new stadium until at least the end of 2027 and most likely even further away, we are already talking about 400m in lost revenue at this point for Milan, this is just disgraceful, it has been almost 4 years of talking.
Moving from the San Siro area is a big deal. It has been the home of these teams forever. Don’t forget what tradition and history in Italy means. Moving to San Sesto will literally remove the team from the city of Milan. The San Sesto area is closer to Monza than it is to downtown Milan.
I don’t think our own stadium will happen in San Siro but up and moving the teams is no small matter. That is why they keep trying.
As much as I would hate to see the clubs move, they can’t afford not to if they want to become the European powerhouses of old. Serie A will continue to be a step behind if more clubs don’t own their own stadiums. I love San Siro, but we need a new stadium and since the city won’t just sign it over to Milan, no renovations can really be done without jumping through hurdles.
Let’s move on to Sesto or anywhere Milan,, don’t be afraid, Milanisti will support the decision…
While I understand taking into consideration folks who depend on the stadium and those who live in and around the area, I don’t understand the overall issue of either renovating or building anew. Both options leave you with what was there previously ie a stadium. All this does is prolong the process or WORSE … force the teams to build elsewhere… which IMO is much much WORSE for all these groups. If San Siro loses the stadium it won’t be profitable anymore to host anything so….. likely it would still need to be torn down or renovated or made smaller (likely torn down…and replaced with condos or whatever). Those groups will lose all the benefits of a stadium. I really don’t get it, the alternative is much worse than not having the stadium
