CorSport: Milan interested in signing 27-year-old Porto man on a free transfer

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have two main centre-back targets lined up for the summer transfer window but they also have alternatives in mind too, a report claims.

According to il Corriere dello Sport (via MilanLive), directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara tried to sign Sven Botman during the January window from Lille and also made attempts to get Gleison Bremer from Torino but they ended up being too expensive, while the other profiles did not fully convince for one reason or another.

It is expected that the management will concentrate all efforts on landing Botman for June, but the Rossoneri are also interested in signing Chancel Mbemba from Porto too. The Congolese defender has a contract with the Portugese side which expires in six months, so he could represent a great opportunity on a free transfer.

He faced off against Milan in the Champions League, giving the Rossoneri an own-goal in the 1-1 draw at San Siro but overall impressing in both games, and the former Newcastle man is deemed a concrete alternative to Botman and Bremer.

Mbemba boasts international experience and quality and he is only 27 years of age meaning he still has plenty of good years in him. Other eventualities such as Alessio Romagnoli’s possible farewell and Matteo Gabbia’s potential departure on loan could see Milan go for Mbemba as well as Botman.

  1. He is not 27 he is actually 31. He lied about his age and has a fake passport. He admitted he was 31 to some of his friends, that is the reason Porto isn’t even trying to extend his contract.

I seriously doubt he is an actual target for Milan.
