GdS: Milan could create a new ‘Swedish colony’ as Real Sociedad striker is a summer target

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak on their list of targets for the summer, and a couple of factors could help their pursuit.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Isak is the man identified by the Rossoneri as the man who could take the baton from Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the starting centre-forward of the future, who funnily enough is his team-mate in the national team, and he could well join another compatriot in Emil Roback who is now on the fringes of the first team.

Ibrahimovic for his part is aiming to be at the World Cup in Qatar with Sweden – who are engaged in play-offs in March to make the tournament – and he wants to earn his renewal with Milan, potentially helping his successor grow under his wing.

Isak of Real Sociedad could help form a ‘Swedish colony’ of sorts at Milanello, as seen in the glory days with Gren, Nordahl and Liedholm in the 1950s and 1960s and became the youngest scorer in the history of the Allsvenskan at 16 years and 199 days.

He struggled after a move to Dortmund but now at Real Sociedad he has found his scoring boots again with 17 league goals last season and 8 this year across all competitions and he is attracting the interest of a lot of clubs as a result

Then there is Roback, who is also Swedish, plays in attack and comes from Malmo, but he is not the ‘new Ibra’. Rather he is more of a mobile forward who can play on the wing, with 17 games and 7 goals in the Primavera this season. The 18-year-old arrived in 2020 for €2m as Milan beat Bayern Munich and Arsenal to him, so a Swedish feel to the attack could well take hold.

  1. When Milan have plan for Isac next season, it indicates that Ibra will remain in Milan for one more season. Isac will be the third choise but with more minutes of play. While Lazetic can go for two season-loan.

      1. Exactly. Ibra’s contract shouldn’t be renewed except he accepts a 2mil salary. Forget all the hype, he is ageing. He can’t last 90mins. He’s often injured. It’s time to wean the team off Ibra. Everyone should realise Ibra can’t play forever. If he wants to be part of the backroom staff, no problems. But as a player and main striker, that’s a joke.
