GdS: Milan want to keep Leao ‘at all costs’ – a crucial meeting will take place today

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will sit down with Rafael Leao’s father to discuss the renewal of his son’s contract today with a big offer ready, a report claims.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport the renewal negotiations start from a key mutual desire as Milan want to keep Leao, while the winger wants to stay. A deal has not been struck yet because the management have to deal with the representatives of the Portuguese who are jostling for a leading role, which is Leao’s father, a French lawyer and of course agent Jorge Mendes.

Today could be an important day given that a meeting between the parties is scheduled at Casa Milan and while it will not be a decisive summit, it will be fundamental in understanding how things might end.

To complicate things is the compensation that Leao owes to Sporting CP (about €20m) but Milan have already said that they are ready to assist the Portuguese forward both from a moral point of view and above all from an economic point of view.

Milan want to keep Leao ‘at all costs’ as per the paper and are therefore ready to put a big offer on the plate to convince him. They could therefore offer a very high salary, untying the matter from the pending lawsuit, or they could help Rafa in paying the compensation to Sporting CP, but obviously at that point the salary proposal would be more contained.

Simply not true. If that were the case they would have complied with Mendes’ demands months ago. There is a limit Milan won’t cross. Such nonsense.
