Party leader strongly opposes Milan’s La Maura plan: “Pee on our walls”

By Oliver Fisher -

Some opposition has been voiced from local residents amid the news that AC Milan are planning to build a new stadium on the site of La Maura hippodrome.

Milan and Inter launched a new stadium project together back in 2019 with the idea of building it next to the current San Siro, but the bureaucratical delays and the uncertainty surrounding the Nerazzurri’s financial situation has left Gerry Cardinale exploring other areas.

However, Milan’s idea of building their own stadium at La Maura will see them face some opposition from local residents who yesterday protested against the new facility with a human chain of three thousand people.

This was reported by the Milan edition of Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) which also reported the thoughts of some people present yesterday at the event organised by councillor of the Lista Sala – Enrico Fedrighini – together with the neighbourhood committees.

Carlo Monguzzi – the leader of the Europa Verde party for Milano – voiced the opinion of some of the people from the area and expressed the importance of maintaining tranquility.

“For us it’s important that La Maura remains a green area. As far as we care, Milan and Inter can easily go to Sesto San Giovanni or in any case outside Milan: we are interested in preserving the park and our tranquillity,” he said.

“The idea of having a stadium a stone’s throw from home, even closer than the Meazza already is, worries us. Not only the greenery but also our peace of mind: we would always have people around the house, for eight days a month we would be invaded by harassing fans who will pee on our walls. We don’t want to get to that.”

      1. Not in La Maura they wouldn’t. You are talking about San Siro which is used by both. Inter wouldn’t have anything to do with the stadium in La Maura.

        1. Max 1 home match per week in Serie A and 1-2 home matches in UCL per month (for 3-4 months only!). So it’s 3-5 home matches per month and the five comes maybe once a year.

  1. Sooji, it’s not about green or traffic. It’s entirely about money.

There are people making millions upon millions renting out san siro. Milan loses that money each and every game.

The use the green situation as an excuse, just like they use “climate change” but it’s all BS so they can keep their cut of the pie and force more people to pay.

Have you seen the prices at San Siro lately?

  2. Just go to Sesto already. None of this public approval process, a municipality throwing themselves at us, great public transit and road access. It should be a no brainer. We could be breaking ground this summer at that location if the club hadn’t chosen to waste more time with La Maura.
