Milan labelled as ‘provincial’ by Italian press after poor display against Inter

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan have been labelled as a ‘provincial team’ by a section of the Italian press after they performed so badly in the Derby della Madonnina against Inter on Sunday night.

As has been outlined in a feature from Calciomercato.com, the Rossoneri looked like a small club that did not win the title just a few months ago.

The Rossoneri switched to a back three for the game against the Nerazzurri and decided to drop Rafael Leao to the bench after a bad run of form.

The Rossoneri looked timid as Inter moved the ball around with purpose in the first half and at no point did it seem like Milan would rescue a point at San Siro.

The feature suggests that Milan were playing to avoid a heavy defeat, rather than to beat their city rivals and get back into the top four. That could be a hangover from the 5-2 defeat against Sassuolo, or the 4-0 defeat against Lazio.

  1. Well, we can see what happened in only couple of months with new (most important American) owner.
Milan got result like Chelsea and Liverpool did.
Many readers defend new owner in the beginning that he hasn’t opened transfer market.
    But facts are different.
What is happening now with Milan financial accounts? They might be slightly better than usual, we don’t know yet.
But what we can now for sure: when team starts dropping results, and the money will be gone.

It will be interesting to see new owner and how he handle the club in situation like this. I bet on more financial bans and best players sales from summer.
But it will be funny to see how RedChicken handle Italian football giant.
